Kitchen and Wardrobe Functionality: A Checklist Before Ordering

Check usable storage, opening movements, load limits, cleaning, replacement parts and supplier sign-off before ordering kitchen or fitted wardrobe fittings.

Begin with the person and the daily task

List what will be stored, how often it is used and who needs access. Measure representative pans, shoes, garments and appliances. Prioritise the problems the fitting should solve rather than collecting mechanisms that look impressive.

Check usable dimensions and every opening

  • Request clear internal width, depth and height after hinges, runners and cabinet sides.
  • Draw doors, drawers, rails and pull-outs fully open; include handles, the bed, nearby appliances and walking routes.
  • Confirm mounting, cabinet construction, load ratings and any obstructions with the exact product instructions.
  • Have final room dimensions and installation tolerances confirmed by the responsible professional.

Compare access and maintenance

Ask to operate a real sample where possible. Check reach, grip and effort with the intended user. Ask how shelves and trays are removed for cleaning, where adjustments are made, and whether service access remains possible after installation.

Record the manufacturer, model reference, spare-part route, warranty and installation responsibility. A premium finish does not establish mechanical suitability or durability.

Prepare a supplier confirmation record

  • Feature and exact product reference.
  • Items to store and intended users.
  • Verified internal dimensions and opening envelope.
  • Load, fixing and service requirements from manufacturer documentation.
  • Cleaning method, spare parts and warranty.
  • Final drawing revision, unresolved questions and written approval before manufacture.

Use Measure Design to communicate the brief

Choose functionality priorities while exploring a concept, then discuss the selected features with your supplier or installer. AI imagery communicates intent; it does not verify mechanism compatibility, safe loading or an installation-ready plan.

This checklist is planning guidance, not a substitute for a measured survey, product instructions or professional design and installation.
