How to Plan a Dressing Area Inside a Fitted Wardrobe

Plan a fitted wardrobe dressing area around mirrors, lighting, seated access, storage and safe movement before ordering.

Define the routine before the furniture

List the activities the area must support, such as grooming, jewellery storage or preparing clothes. Record who will use it and what needs to remain within comfortable reach.

Separate essentials from decorative ideas. A useful dressing area should not remove the hanging, drawer or circulation space the household needs more often.

Check the clear movement space

Draw the seat, open doors and drawers at full extension and mark the standing route. Test the footprint with tape or boxes while nearby furniture remains in position.

Confirm that a stool can be moved or stored without blocking an exit, radiator or wardrobe opening. Final clearances require a site survey.

Plan the mirror for the real user

Choose the mirror position from seated and standing eye levels rather than centring it only on the elevation. Check reflections, window glare and the effect of open doors.

Mirror type, backing, edge treatment and secure fixing must be specified and installed by the responsible supplier or installer.

Coordinate lighting and electrics

Use layered room and task lighting so the face and stored items are visible without harsh shadow. Record any intended socket or illuminated mirror in the brief.

Electrical design and installation must be completed or verified by appropriately qualified professionals. An AI concept cannot confirm wiring, bathroom-zone rules or product suitability.

Make small-item storage easy to review

Measure the cosmetics, accessories and tools that will be stored, then compare shallow drawers, trays and open compartments by visibility and cleaning access.

Keep heat-producing tools and products according to their manufacturer instructions. Do not assume an enclosed drawer is a safe operating or cooling location.

Turn the idea into a verified brief

Record users, seated height, mirror position, storage categories, lighting, services and unresolved questions. Ask the technical drawing to show usable internal dimensions and exact fittings.

Measure Design can help explore and communicate a fitted-wardrobe concept. The supplier and installers must verify measurements, structure, electrics and safe installation before manufacture.

Frequently asked questions

Can a dressing table fit inside any wardrobe? No; usable width, depth, doors and circulation must be checked. Can an AI image confirm mirror or socket safety? No. Should the seat be built in? Compare comfort, access and removability with the actual users.
