How to Plan a Full-Length Mirror With a Fitted Wardrobe

Plan a full-length mirror around sightlines, lighting, door movement and safe fixing before finalising a fitted wardrobe.

Decide what the mirror must show

Identify who will use the mirror, the viewing distance available and whether a complete head-to-toe view matters. Mark the likely standing position rather than choosing a size from appearance alone.

Check the view with temporary tape or card before ordering. A tall mirror can still be ineffective if furniture blocks the useful sightline.

Choose a location that supports movement

Compare a wall-mounted mirror, an integrated panel and a suitable mirrored door against the room layout. Trace wardrobe doors, drawers, bedroom doors and everyday walking routes.

Do not place the viewing position where an open door creates a collision or where the user must stand in a restricted route.

Review light and reflections

Observe daylight and artificial light at the times the mirror will be used. Check glare, strong backlighting and what the mirror reflects from the rest of the room.

Wardrobe lighting and room lighting require their own verified specification; a concept image cannot confirm electrical or installation requirements.

Confirm the supporting construction

Record the proposed mirror type, weight, backing and fixing surface. The responsible supplier and installer must confirm suitable materials, fixings and edge protection.

Do not assume a wardrobe panel, plasterboard wall or door can carry a mirror merely because the dimensions appear to fit.

Consider cleaning and damage risk

Leave practical access to the surface and edges without forcing contact with handles, furniture or moving panels.

Where children, vulnerable users or high-traffic routes are involved, obtain appropriate safety advice and use products suited to the setting.

Put the decision on the final brief

Record the mirror position, overall size, viewing point, relevant door clearances, lighting assumptions and fixing responsibility.
